This is a new position at CEU and it is intended to play a key role in assisting and developing original research based on large-scale datasets and computational methods.

  • Central European University (CEU) seeks two academic technologists to work collaboratively to support online learning, instructional design, and collaborative technologies at a highly regarded international graduate institution. This is an exciting opportunity to promote and support academic technologies for teaching, learning and research. Both positions will work with faculty, staff and students to support design and development of new and existing blended or online course offerings utilizing appropriate e-learning tools, course management systems, and distance learning technologies.

  • The Department of Gender Studies at Central European University invites applications for a fulltime Assistant Professor in the field of Gender and Migration with specialization in the Middle East and North Africa. We seek a scholar whose research and teaching applies post- or decolonial feminist perspectives to issues of migration, refugees, and other topics related to contemporary struggles centered on Islam and the Middle Eastern region.
    While we do not require a specific disciplinary background, we prefer a scholar trained in social scientific approaches with a strong background in gender studies and/or feminist theory and the ability to incorporate scholarship from across disciplinary boundaries in their research, teaching, and mentoring. Expertise in visual analysis or new media is a plus but not required.

We expect applications from scholars with a PhD in Computer Science or Data Science, who have an excellent publication record with applications of data science methods to large datasets, addressing problems related to computational social science. The candidate should have strong motivation for interdisciplinary research (especially with the social sciences) and be interested in participating in projects with several departments at CEU. Experience in data science areas, such as: data mining, machine learning, natural languages processing, or visualization is a must and should be emphasized in the application. Capability of high quality teaching is assumed. The Center for Network Science was established as an interdisciplinary unit, integrating natural science and social science approaches.

The initial contract is for four years, with the possibility of renewal and promotion. The candidate will be expected to teach courses related to Global Migration; Minority Protection; Federalism; Comparative Politics; and Methodology of Comparative Social Research. Candidates with a specific focus on the contemporary accommodation of ethnic, racial and linguistic diversity (e.g. consociationalism, federalism) are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates engaged in comparative research, focusing on both European and non-European regions. The candidate should have a proven track record in publishing on these topics, preferably in political science journals.
