The Romani Studies Program (RSP) of the Central European University (CEU) invites applications for two Junior Visiting Researchers in Romani Studies as part of the Roma in European Societies (RES) initiative. The positions are for one year. The two Junior Researchers will work closely with the CEU Chair of Romani Studies.

CEU’s Roma in European Societies is a collaborative initiative supporting efforts to improve the situation of Roma in all sectors at the local, national, and regional levels through teaching, course development, research, leadership development, and community outreach. RES is funded by the Velux Foundations, Roma Education Fund and the OSF Roma Initiatives Office. The Romani Studies Program (RSP) of the Central European University (CEU) invites applications for two Junior Visiting Researchers in Romani Studies as part of the Roma in European Societies (RES) initiative. The positions are for one year. The two Junior Researchers will work closely with CEU Chair of Romani Studies.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Junior Visiting Researchers will contribute to RES activities by carrying out their own research projects. The research projects would preferably focus on the following topics: Antigypsyism, Economic and Other Forms of Oppression of Roma, Representation of Roma in Media, Social and Political Mobilization of Roma, and Roma Representation and Leadership. Other activities might include organizing seminars, conferences, debates and other events or tasks assigned by the Chair of Romani Studies. The Junior Visiting Researchers will be based at the CEU RSP premises in Budapest, Hungary.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in the social sciences or humanities and have previous research and/or professional experience in working with Roma communities. 
  • Applicants are expected to be able to communicate fluently in English (speaking & writing) as this is the working language of the program. They must have a demonstrated record of policy engagement.
