The Department of Philosophy at Central European University, Budapest invites applications for a part-time Department Assistant position.

The successful candidate will provide general administrative support to the Department of Philosophy.

 The CEU Department of Philosophy offers Master's and Doctoral level education up to the standards of the best international institutions, and its programs are accredited in the United States as well as in Hungary. The Department uniquely combines analytic and historical approaches to philosophy, a feature which allows for a fruitful dialogue between contemporary philosophy and its history.

 Duties and responsibilities:

 The assistant’s main responsibility will be to provide general administrative support to the Department of Philosophy, with event organization, editing Departmental publications and website, administration of student and faculty travel grants, as well as the organization of departmental field trips. The assistant will also be responsible for assisting with visiting faculty related and other general administrative tasks, such as recruitment and alumni matters, booking accommodation, and arranging technical issues for classes. Assistance to the Head of Department and the Departmental Coordinator are also part of the duties.

 Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of English and Hungarian (both written and spoken)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • A strong ability to work with students
  • A thorough knowledge of the MS Office suite
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Familiarity with SAP software (preferable) 
  • Web design skills (preferable)
  • University degree (preferable)
  • Flexibility in working hours 
  • A high level of confidentiality
  • Multicultural orientation and open-mindedness
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in creative problem-solving and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong work ethic

 Compensation

We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience as well as a dynamic and international academic environment. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
