The Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations at Central European University invites applications for one part-time Coordinator position.

Program Background:

The Doctoral School is an academic community home to more than 50 permanent faculty members and over 100 doctoral students.

The Doctoral Program in Political Science was established by the Departments of Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy with the aim of contributing to a spirit of cooperation between faculty and students and foster the consolidation of a common academic community across the three departments. With the Department of Public Policy (DPP) being merged with CEU's School of Public Policy (SPP) in 2015, the constituting units of the Doctoral School became the Political Science and International Relations departments, and SPP.

The Doctoral School offers and administers the Doctoral (PhD) Program in Political Science. The PhD program aims to provide the theoretical and methodological skills necessary to facilitate a broader comparative perspective which will mediate and engage scholarship and practices from both European and non-European contexts.

The language of instruction is English.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Administration of the school’s different teaching programs;
  • Planning, coordinating the school’s activities;
  • Organizing academic and social events, meetings,
  • Scheduling and administering exams, defenses,
  • Liaison with contacts within and out of the university;
  • Providing high level administrative support to faculty, students, and guests;
  • Answering general enquiries or redirecting them to the responsible officer or faculty member;
  • Maintaining and updating databases;
  • Handling day-to-day technical problems;
  • Compiling reports and evaluations;
  • Entering budget requests in the SAP systems;
  • Preparing financial reports from the SAP system as directed; assists in monitoring expenses in the School’s budget;
  • Maintaining the School’s website;
  • Working with social media to recruit students and promote the program;
  • Researching and circulating fellowship opportunities,
  • Liaison with relevant administrative units (Admissions, Communications, Alumni Relations, Development, etc.)
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English;
  • A strong interest in and ability of working with students in an international environment;
  • High level computer literacy and advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite, mastery of databases and web-search platforms;
  • Administrative experience within an office;
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills;
  • Structured and flexible way of thinking;
  • Ability to work alone; and in a team
  • A precise, proactive and efficient attitude and work ethics;
  • Ability of prioritizing multiple tasks and taking the initiative;
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines;
  • Problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to understand and learn new tasks quickly;
  • Web design skills (preferable);
  • Multicultural orientation and be open-minded.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience. However, we offer a competitive salary, as well as a dynamic and international academic environment.

The initial contract is for one year, with a possibility of renewal.
