Shops in Budapest are normally open Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 18.00, on Saturdays from 10.00 to 13.00. Although, shopping malls and many supermarkets are open till 20:00-22:00 including weekends.

Food stores are open from 6.00 or 7.00 to 18.00 - 19.00, Monday to Friday; on Saturdays from 6.00 or 7.00 to 13.00 - 14.00. The large supermarkets have longer opening hours and are open on Sunday. In busy city centre areas, you'll also find 24hrs grocery shops (called 'éjjel-nappali' or 'non-stop') that sell essentials such as bread, coffee, milk and tea, along with other foodstuffs, cigarettes and drinks.

CBA, Coop, Spar, Roni and Penny are among the biggest grocery stores. You can find them everywhere in the downtown.

The hypermarkets like Auchan, Tesco, Interspar, Metro are located in the outskirts of the City.
