Pregnancy and Maternity Benefits

Pregnancy and Maternity Benefits provided under the Hungarian Health Insurance System are the following:

1.) Pregnancy-Maternity Benefits (csecsemőgondozási díj / CSED)

2.) Child-Care Benefit (gyermekgondozási díj / GYED)

 

Insured persons – who are engaged in Employment under contract are eligible only.

 

The amount of cash benefits provided under health insurance system shall be determinated based on the income in respect of which the insured person was required to pay the health insurance cash contribution (3% of monthly gross salary).

1.) Pregnancy-Maternety Benefits (csecsemőgondozási díj / CSED)

Shall be due and payable to an insured person who has a valid employment contract and was insured for a period of 365 days – in any EU country - within a period of two years prior to giving birth.

Amount is the 70% of the average daily income (earned at CEU)* of the calendar year prior to giving birth.

Duration of the benefit: 168 days

 

2.) Child-Care Benefit (gyermekgondozási díj / GYED)

Shall be due and payable to an insured person who was insured for a period of 365 days -in any EU country -within a period of two years prior to claiming child-care benefits or prior to giving birth if claimed by the mother.

Amount is 70% of the average daily income earned at CEU *, but maximum 70 % of double the prevailing minimum wage** in a month.

Duration of the benefit: until the child’s second birthday.

* Please note that sickness benefit is not considered as income.

** The minimum wage in 2017 is 127,500 HUF.
